Is trademarking needed when starting a clothing line or clothing brand?
#1
I am interested in starting a clothing brand or line and I was wondering about trademarking.

Is trademarking needed when starting a clothing line or clothing brand?
Do i need to trademark the logo or the words?

Their is couple of ways you can go, if you're going to use the name on your clothing line, I suggest you do trademark it. However if you are going to use other logos and make changes to your logo then trademarking the logo is a waste of money. I suggest only trademarking the logo if you know you will not change it. You have to pay for separate trademark for your name and logo. Its always a good idea to start your business first and see how things go, before you decide to spend the money on TM.

Clothing is something that is so widely available. The point in textile business is to retain your customers, which can only be done if there is a branding.

People tend to identify the material, texture, comfort and fit based on the brand. In that sense, I would definitely say that you brand your product to build and retain the customer base.
