Destiny Fans Raise Over $1 Million For Nepal Relief

On April 25, a massive 7.8 magnitude earthquake struck the country of Nepal. Relief efforts are ongoing, and gamers and publishers have stepped up in a number of ways. EVE Online developer CCP and Smite studio Hi-Rez were among those incentivizing gamers to pitch in.

Bungie rallied the Destiny community, offering a t-shirt and in-game shader and emblem. All profits were donated to Direct Relief, an organization working to help those impacted by the devastation.

In total, Destiny fans, the Bungie Foundation, and Activision were able to contribute $1,026,006.80 in support of relief.

"This was an astounding act of generosity on the part of Bungie and the larger Bungie community, and we at Direct Relief are deeply grateful – beyond what can be expressed in words," says Direct Relief president and CEO. "Most importantly, the Bungie community’s amazing support will translate immediately and directly into help for people in Nepal who experienced a tremendous blow, are in a very difficult and more vulnerable situation now as monsoon season nears, and also have a long, tough road ahead. Every penny will be spent to help strengthen essential health services that were needed before the earthquakes and much more so now."

Shirts are shipping now, so if you ordered one, check your mail soon. Emblems and shaders will be delivered sometime this summer.

That's awesome! Glad to see the gaming world step out of its shell and do something good.
